NORTHFIELD CENTER – Township trustees have named retired Macedonia Fire Chief Tim Black as the new service director, while Frank Buehner will return to his former position as road department foreman.

The action was taken at the trustees’ May 2 regular meeting. Buehner has served as interim service director since April 2021, having taken over after the February 2021 death of former service director Rick Youel.

Black, 59, a Sagamore Hills resident, retired in February 2019 after 36 years working for Macedonia, including 24 years as fire chief. A Nordonia High graduate, he was replaced by current Chief Brian Ripley.

Black began his career with the city as a parks maintenance worker during his years studying at the University of Akron. A year later in 1984, he joined the fire department part-time, became a full-time firefighter in 1989 and chief in 1995.
